EARTH DAY

FUN FACTS – Did you know?

On April 22, 1970, was held the first Earth Day. Prior to April 22, 1970, there was no environmental movement. And many factories pumped toxins into the air, recycling was almost non-existent, and gas guzzling vehicles were the norm. The seeds of the modern movement had been planted, however, with the publishing of Rachel Carson's Silent Spring in 1962. This book raised the public's awareness of pollution and its effect on health.

And that Gaylord Nelson recognized there was a need for humans to become more environmentally aware and active in preserving our planet. He hoped that Earth Day would be a way to educate people about the importance of environmental protection. (Gaylord Nelson, a United States Senator from Wisconsin.)

Help celebrate Earth Day.

April 10th Siblings Day

A Day that celebrates the special bond between siblings. It celebrates a family relationship. Siblings’ relationship is often a lifelong relationship that usually lasts longer than a relationship with parents or grandparents.

Siblings’ relationships may be some of the closest and may know each other longer than anyone else throughout their lives. Today's holiday strengthens the relationship between siblings, which in turn strengthens our families, communities, and the nation.

Facts:

Siblings Day was created by Claudia Evert, she lost both of her siblings, Alan, and Lisette, at an early age. The 10th of April is also Lisette's birthday.

Ms. Evert’s goal and that of The Siblings Day Foundation, is to make the holiday a true "National" day—one that is a federal holiday just like Mother's Day and Father's Day. That would be delightful!

Recognized by previous presidents- to include Past Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. Gubernatorial proclamations have been issued in forty-nine states.

Dry skin

During the winter months so let’s start with moisturizer- your hands especially get tried out from repeated washing. Use lotion or cream after washing. It helps to seal in natural oils.

Cover up - protective skin from the cold and dry air when heading outdoors, wearing gloves and mittens and even scarves and hats.

Health foods that are high and healthy for us - can wreak havoc on your body, Therefore, drink lots of water and eat food's high in Omega-3 acids like a salmon, shrimps, walnuts, kidney beans, as well as some high in antioxidants like it beans, nuts, berries, and dark leafy vegetables.

Don't forget sunscreen, the sun in the winter sun can be much stronger at times than during the summer so make sure when you're out there more than 20 minutes that you're using an SF an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen. On the exposed parts of your bod.

Exercise is always important. Getting into a regiment helps to build and maintain muscles when we check with your physician first and determine what it should be doing and not doing it all helps!
