Cell Phone Courtesy Month

Cell Phone Courtesy Month:
Cell Phone Courtesy Month is observed in July and encourages individuals to practice phone courtesy.

It's important to be mindful of our cell phone usage and practice good etiquette. In today's society, cell phones have become a ubiquitous part of our lives, but it's crucial to remember that being courteous to others should always come first.

This month serves as a reminder to refrain from using our phones in inappropriate situations, such as during meetings, at the dinner table, or in movie theaters. It encourages us to be respectful of those around us, maintain eye contact during conversations, and keep our voices down when speaking on the phone in public spaces. By practicing cell phone courtesy, we can foster better communication and show consideration for others.

Disability Pride Month:

Disability Pride Month takes place in July and celebrates the diversity, achievements, and contributions of people with disabilities.

It is a time to celebrate and promote inclusivity, acceptance, and the rights of individuals with disabilities.

It aims to raise awareness about the experiences and achievements of people with disabilities while challenging societal prejudices and stereotypes.

During this month, various events and initiatives take place to highlight the importance of equal opportunities, accessibility, and respect for individuals with disabilities.  Lost Pet Prevention Month:

Observed in July and focuses on raising awareness about the prevention of lost pets and promoting responsible pet ownership.

The steps we can take to prevent our beloved pets from getting lost and helping them find their way back home if they do. Losing a pet can be a distressing experience, and this month aims to educate pet owners about the importance of identification methods such as microchipping, proper collars with tags, and ensuring that contact information is up to date.

It also emphasizes the significance of responsible pet ownership, such as keeping pets secure in fenced areas or on leashes, practicing caution when opening doors or gates, and providing proper training. By taking preventative measures, we can help reduce the number of lost pets and increase the chances of reuniting them with their families.

National Parks: Great Outdoors Month is an excellent opportunity to visit national parks. The United States is home to stunning national parks such as:

This can include activities like cycling, golfing, tennis, soccer, frisbee, or even simply having a picnic in a park. Look for local sports clubs or community events that promote outdoor activities.

But remember, safety should always be a priority when venturing outdoors.

·        Stay hydrated.

National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month

Is an annual campaign that takes place in May to raise awareness about osteoporosis, a common condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Osteoporosis is a bone disease that causes bones to become weak and brittle, making them more susceptible to fractures. This disease can be prevented or delayed through early detection and preventive measures.

One main goal of National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month is to educate people about the risk factors for osteoporosis, which include age, genetics, certain medical conditions, and lifestyle choices such as a lack of physical activity, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption. By understanding these risk factors, individuals can take steps to reduce their risk of developing osteoporosis.

Preventive measures that can help reduce the risk of osteoporosis include:

1.   Getting enough calcium and vitamin D: Calcium and vitamin D are essential nutrients for bone health. Calcium is the building block of bones, while vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium. Good sources of calcium include dairy products, leafy greens, and fortified foods. Vitamin D can be obtained from sunlight, fatty fish, and fortified foods.

2.   Engaging in weight-bearing exercises: Exercise, especially weight-bearing exercises such as walking, jogging, and resistance training, can help build strong bones and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

3.   Quitting smoking: Smoking can weaken bones and increase the risk of osteoporosis.

4.   Limiting alcohol consumption: Excessive alcohol consumption can also weaken bones and increase the risk of osteoporosis.

5.   Regular bone density screenings: Bone density screenings can help detect osteoporosis early when it is more treatable.

6.   Medications: Some medications can help prevent or treat osteoporosis, such as bisphosphonates, and hormone therapy.  These should be taken under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

In conclusion, National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month serves as a reminder that osteoporosis is a preventable and treatable condition. By taking steps to maintain good bone health, such as getting enough calcium and vitamin D, engaging in regular exercise, and avoiding harmful lifestyle habits, individuals can reduce their risk of developing osteoporosis and enjoy strong bones for life.

EARTH DAY

FUN FACTS – Did you know?

On April 22, 1970, was held the first Earth Day. Prior to April 22, 1970, there was no environmental movement. And many factories pumped toxins into the air, recycling was almost non-existent, and gas guzzling vehicles were the norm. The seeds of the modern movement had been planted, however, with the publishing of Rachel Carson's Silent Spring in 1962. This book raised the public's awareness of pollution and its effect on health.

And that Gaylord Nelson recognized there was a need for humans to become more environmentally aware and active in preserving our planet. He hoped that Earth Day would be a way to educate people about the importance of environmental protection. (Gaylord Nelson, a United States Senator from Wisconsin.)

Help celebrate Earth Day.

·         Things to Do:

·

Clean up something in your city or neighborhood such as a park, beach, or river.

·         Recycle—Recycle plastics or work to stop using them altogether. Use reusable bottles, utensils, and bags.

·         Food—Eat local food, which has a smaller carbon footprint because it has not been shipped across the country.

·         Conserve water.

·         Save paper—Use online billing, print on two sides of paper, and use cloth towels.

·         Travel—Be more environmentally conscious by walking or riding a bike, carpooling, and using public transportation.

·         Light bulbs—Replace incandescent light bulbs with LED and fluorescent bulbs. Turn off lights when you are not near them. Install solar panels. Turn your thermostat down in the winter and up in the summer.

·

Volunteer with a local environmental group.

Create an Act of Green.

Plant a tree or donate through the Canopy Project.

Visit the EPA's website to see events and ideas.

Take the Earth Day Network's Earth Day quiz.

Watch video clips about the first Earth Day.

April 10th Siblings Day

A Day that celebrates the special bond between siblings. It celebrates a family relationship. Siblings’ relationship is often a lifelong relationship that usually lasts longer than a relationship with parents or grandparents.

Siblings’ relationships may be some of the closest and may know each other longer than anyone else throughout their lives. Today's holiday strengthens the relationship between siblings, which in turn strengthens our families, communities, and the nation.

Facts:

Siblings Day was created by Claudia Evert, she lost both of her siblings, Alan, and Lisette, at an early age. The 10th of April is also Lisette's birthday.

Ms. Evert’s goal and that of The Siblings Day Foundation, is to make the holiday a true "National" day—one that is a federal holiday just like Mother's Day and Father's Day. That would be delightful!

Recognized by previous presidents- to include Past Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. Gubernatorial proclamations have been issued in forty-nine states.
