Days in January  2023

Women Rock! Day, Jan 3rd

January 3rd  “Women Rock! Day” women have made an immense contribution to rock and roll and honor that contribution. The day takes place on the anniversary of the date in 1987 when Aretha Franklin became the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame began inducting members in 1986 and has continued to do so each year since. Many women have been inducted since Aretha Franklin, such as The Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas, The Shirelles, Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, Patti Smith, Grace Slick as part of Jefferson Airplane, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks as part of Fleetwood Mac, Dusty Springfield, and Nina Simone.

However, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame continues to be dominated by men. Elvis Presley. Chuck Berry. Jerry Lee Lewis. Little Richard. Buddy Holly. When it comes to rock and roll, it is usually male artists and performers who are first remembered as its architects, innovators, and keepers of the flame.  But 2022 have change the narrative e a bit!

National Trivia Day – Jan. 4th

History of National Trivia Day

The game was first founded by two men named Chris Haney and Scott Abbott at Montreal, Québec, Canada, in 1979, who had become frustrated when they found that pieces from their Scrabble game had disappeared and got inspired them to create their own game.

Trivial Pursuit became an almost instant hit worldwide, and a trivial craze began.

Interesting facts about National Trivia Day:

1.   The first book of Trivia, Trivialities: Bits of Information by Logan Pearsall, was the first-ever book written on Trivia. It included short write-ups about various things and commonplace moments, much like an encyclopedia.

2.   In 1966, the Great Midwest Trivia contest was first held at Lawrence University. Its first question was, “Who was Superman’s Father?”

3.   In 1981 the famous board game, Trivial Pursuit was launched, which is still given credit to have popularized a day a whole lot.

4.   1988, “Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader” was published, which had exciting facts and Trivia to read while you’re in the loo.
