A Monthly Reflection on Embracing Life's
Seasons
October arrives dressed
in change.
The leaves begin to
surrender their summer greens, revealing shades of gold, amber, crimson, and
brown. The air becomes cooler. The days grow shorter. Nature quietly reminds us
that change is not something to fear.
Change is a part of
life.
Yet, as beautiful as
change can look in nature, it can feel very different when it happens in our
own lives.
We may resist a new
season because we are comfortable with the one we know. We may hold onto
relationships, routines, expectations, or memories because letting go feels
uncertain.
But sometimes, what we
call an ending is simply life making room for
something different.
Change
Doesn't Mean Something Is Wrong
We often associate
change with loss.
A child grows up.
A friendship changes.
A career ends.
A relationship takes a different direction.
Our bodies change.
Our priorities change.
The people we love change.
Some changes are
chosen. Others are placed in our path without our permission.
But change itself is
not necessarily a sign that something has gone wrong.
Sometimes it means we
are growing, and that’s a good thing!
Sometimes it means we
are healing, and that’s growth.
Sometimes it means we
have finally recognized that something no longer fits the person we are Becoming!
What the Leaves Can Teach Us
Look at the trees in
October.
The leaves don't cling
forever.
They let go.
Not because they are
weak.
Not because their
season wasn't beautiful.
They simply understand
that holding on is not always necessary.
There is wisdom in
that.
Perhaps we, too, can
learn to release what has already completed its purpose.
A past disappointment.
An outdated
expectation.
A relationship that has
changed.
A mistake we continue
to punish ourselves for.
A version of ourselves
we have outgrown.
Letting go doesn't mean
we don't care. It means growth.
It means we understand
that holding on and moving forward cannot always
happen at the same time.
